Britain in business

Sir - In recent years, business taxes and the burden of regulation have risen, there are serious skills shortfalls and our transport system is wholly inadequate. As a result, our international competitiveness has sharply declined.

David Cameron should be commended for recognising this economic challenge and for asking John Redwood and Simon Wolfson to address it.

Their impressive report, Freeing Britain to Compete, shows clarity in its assessment of the problem, and makes sensible proposals about how to improve our competitiveness. We warmly welcome the report, and endorse all efforts to make Britain once again the best place in the world to do business.
