BODY: The Widdowson Group has taken delivery of the first of a 40-strong convoy of Scania commercial vehicles. The Glenfield logistics business is getting the trucks in a fleet management deal funded by Lombard, the asset finance division of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group.

The Widdowson Group employs more than 340 people and has an existing fleet of more than 120 vehicles.

The new trucks will be introduced over a period of 12 months. Keltruck is the supplier.

Harry Hawksworth, technical director of The Widdowson Group, said: “The business has enjoyed a significant level of growth over the past few years.

“This latest level of investment is a statement of our continued intent to increase the business.

“The new vehicles not only increase the size of our fleet but also provide us with an enhanced offering to our customer base.” Rob Ellen, director of asset finance at Lombard, on Meridian business park, said: “We are delighted to have funded the purchase of the vehicles for Harry’s team.”
