With the launch of the P- and T-series, Scania’s new truck range is complete. At the same time Scania’s modular engine range also becomes complete with a brand new 9-litre engine based on the same combustion chamber and technology as other Scania engines. Also new is a Euro 4 version of the 12-litre engine for customers in search of extra low emissions.

Scania’s complete new truck range will be shown at the IAA exhibition in Hanover 23-30 September.

The introduction of Scania’s new truck range, which started in April with the launch of the R-series, will now be complete with the P- and T-series. Further models are also added to the R-series. The P- and R-series are designed for all types of transport – long-haulage, construction and distribution. The T-series is intended for long-haulage and construction.

The changeover of Scania’s European production continues according to the plan. The units in Sweden, the Netherlands and France have gradually started to assemble the new range. This year the new range will represent about 20 percent of Scania’s production in Europe.

“The changeover to our new truck range will entail a slight limitation in delivery capacity during 2004. The full effect of the changeover will be achieved during the first half of 2005,” says Leif Östling, President and CEO.

Today Scania offers the new truck range on markets demanding trucks with high technological content and high performance, i.e. western, central and eastern Europe, Turkey, Australia and New Zeeland.  Within a year or so, the new range will also be offered in Japan and South Korea.

In South America, Scania will continue to build the 4-series until 2007. The range of models produced has therefore been broadened to satisfy the needs of all Scania markets worldwide. First out is the new 9-litre engine, which will be produced in South America. This gives the South American production units a new global role in Scania’s production system. Their technical capacity of 20,000 vehicles per year, with local manufacturing of all main components, can be optimally utilised.

With the launch of the new five-cylinder 9-litre unit, Scania’s modular engine range is complete. Ten engines, all in the modular 9-11-12-16-litre range, cover outputs from 230 hp to 580 hp. Customers in search of extra low emissions can choose a 420 hp Euro 4 version of Scania’s 12-litre engine already from September 2004.

Like the long-haulage trucks, development of the new construction and distribution trucks has targeted the truck driver’s need for an optimal working environment and the truck operator’s quest for productivity. The interior is brand new on all cab models, with a new ergonomic approach for the driver’s station and numerous new storage facilities.
