Scania bus and coach engines are equipped with Scania EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) to guarantee compliance with emissions regulations at all times and in all driving conditions, from the stop-go traffic of urban environments to long-distance cruising on the open road.
Scania EGR is a patented recirculation system that attacks emissions in the combustion chamber before they arise. A controlled amount of the exhaust flow – up to 18 per cent for Euro 4 – is cooled by an EGR cooler and recirculated into the engine to achieve a lower combustion temperature that reduces nitrogen oxide emissions to the required levels. Particulate matter is handled by Scania’s high-pressure injection system. No additives or extra tanks are required.
EGR is a long-established technology used on light commercial vehicles all over the world and on most of the 300,000 trucks sold in North America each year. More than 3,000 Euro 4 trucks with Scania EGR are on the road today.
