Scania R 420 6x4 tipper

Construction

Scania construction vehicles are endowed with sturdy dependability, derived from durable high strength throughout the chassis and powertrain. Premium quality throughout the chassis and powertrain ensures daily reliability and long-term dependability.

Construction trucks are expected to go just about anywhere. On any road or where there’s no road. Up and down steep gradients, along uneven winding tracks, across open land on barely marked routes. One day the ground can be soft and slippery, with trucks axle-deep in mud or sand. The next day, the terrain may be completely different: hard, rutted and unyielding.

To cover the extensive range of operating requirements associated with construction vehicles, Scania offers a comprehensive model range.

There are several choices of power outputs (from 230 to 620 hp) and various gearboxes including an overdrive 12-speed for use with hub reduction axles. Most powertrains have the option of Scania Opticruise and the Scania Retarder. Various high-torque PTO options are available for engines and gearboxes.

Axle configurations include all-wheel drive as well as single and tandem drive axles (single and hub reduction).

Suspension options include air, parabolic and multileaf. And for extreme off-road loads and conditions, there are extra-heavy duty frames. Design capacity is up to 150 tonnes.

You’ll find three types of spacious P-, G- and R day cabs, plus a P- and G-series short cab. (Sleeper cabs can also be specified.)

Safety features
A number of safety features are available depending on choice of chassis and cab such as:

  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
A system that warns the driver when the vehicle deviates from its correct driving line.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Cruise controller that takes account of other traffic and automatically adjusts the vehicle’s speed.
  • Hill hold. Helps the driver to start safely in hilly conditions.
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPM). A safety system that alerts the driver if the pressure drops in any of the vehicle’s tyres.
  • Duraseal tyres. Self repairing tyres that help the driver get to a repair shop without stopping if a tyre is damaged.
  • Electronic Brake System (EBS). Improved brake performance with shorter braking distance.
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP). A safety system that helps to prevent skidding when driving in tough conditions.

Bodybuilding
A Scania construction chassis is excellent for bodybuilding because of:

  • The Scania modular system, which gives maximum flexibility.
  • Several available vehicle configurations from 2 to 5 axles.
  • Simple and cost effective fitting of the body to the truck.
  • Scania offers a high level of technical support.
  • Web-based technical support with multi-layered dimensional drawings.
  • Several choices of power take-off are available – engine, gearbox or flywheel mounted – for stable high-torque output.
  • An electrical system with CAN bus control for increased functionality and safety.
