Scania has repeated its success of 12 months ago by once again securing the title Heavy Duty Manufacturer of the Year at this year’s Low Carbon Champions Awards

The company’s winning entry centred around its dedicated gas-powered trucks and buses, which are now in daily service with a number of high profile operators in the UK.

In their citation, the awards’ judges said, “We were impressed with the commercial focus Scania has taken in delivering lower carbon trucks and buses into real world operations whilst also developing innovative longer-term options for trials across a wide range of markets. The company’s clear commitment to the introduction of sustainable biofuel options in the difficult-to-decarbonise heavy duty vehicle market was also seen as a Scania strength.”

For Scania (Great Britain) Limited, Managing Director Claes Jacobsson comments: “We are delighted to have once again been recognised for our work as we drive the shift towards a sustainable transport future. Our dedicated gas-powered trucks and buses are capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90 percent when running on biogas, which represents a major contribution to the decarbonisation of heavy commercial vehicles.”

Operators today running dedicated gas-powered Scania trucks include Argos and the John Lewis Partnership. Reading Buses and Stagecoach are two bus operators utilising the technology in the UK.
