Thieves eye Scanias in W Midlands

Scania dealer Keltruck is warning of an ‘epidemic’ of vehicle thefts in the West Midlands.

The dealer has highlighted a flurry of recent thefts including a fridge trailer and several Scania 4 Series trucks.

One of the most recent was the theft of a £50,000 Scania truck that was stolen from an industrial estate in Kingswinford, West Midlands, on January 26/27.

Chris Kelly, chairman and managing director of Keltruck, says: ‘Commercial vehicle theft is now an epidemic in the West Midlands.’

However, the police in Birmingham are keen to play down the trend.

‘I know of one Scania that went last week, but I wouldn’t call it an epidemic,’ says a spokesman.
